Welcome back!

TRIVIA:

The first Star Wars movie (A New Hope) was oringially given a movie rating of G. That was, until they added the burning corpses of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. The rating was quickly changed to PG.

…y’know, I seen that there picture show, many a year ago. An that woman wi’ t’ donuts on t’ ears, I kin recollect her from somewheres else, too. Weren’t she one a them what was sellin them there diet pills onna TV later? I kin swear I seen her on one a them commercials. She never did look like she were needin em, though. Don’ make no sense.

Senseless Sensability?

Filed under: History — Momma @ 6:07 am

TRIVIA:

John C. Calhoun of South Carolina was the only man to serve as Vice-President to U.S. Presidents in two different parties: John Quincy Adams (1825-1829) and Andrew Jackson (1829-1832). He is also the first to resign the office.

…Iffen he was turncoat enuff ta switch parties in midstream like that there, it be jes as well he resigned. Y’know, t’ more I hear a politickin, t’ less sense it be makin. Seem like there be moire sense inna program guide there onna tv stand, inna soap opera reports. Makes more sense than some a what ya hear these here days.

On Being Prepared

Filed under: History, Sports — Momma @ 4:31 am

TRIVIA:

The NFL’s Baltimore Ravens were named for Baltimore native Edgar Allan Poe, author of “The Raven.”

…so why ya figger they done that? Poe, I recollect his stuff from school, an he weren’t intrested in no ball playin. Me neither. Maisie, she listens to it on her radio. Seem like she allus be mad cause her teams didden do what she wants em to. But then, Maisie be a bit teched inna head anyhow. Like, she allus keeps a bag a them there disposable diapers on hand. She ain’t had a baby round t’ place in forty year, an back then, they didden make them there plastic diapers, but she jes says, ya never know. Teched.

Play Ball!

Filed under: History, Sports — Momma @ 4:20 am

TRIVIA:

The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t always had that name. Originally, the ball club was known as the Pittsburgh Alleghenies. But in 1880, after stealing away second-baseman Louis Bierbauer from the Philadelphia Athletics, a local newspaper called the team “a bunch of pirates.” The nickname suited them just fine, and they’ve been flying the Jolly Roger ever since.

…prolly jes as well, when ya think on it. That there first one, they woulden a had many fans, cause no one would be spellin it right. Pirates be a durn sight easier, iffen ya ask me. An, wi’ every single one a them there clubs sendin out fliers an gift card stuff on t’ holidays, it shore fits better when they be printin it. Me, I think all that there ball playin be a waste a time anyhow. Them fellers need ta git em a real job.

Plane Speaking?

Filed under: People — Momma @ 8:40 pm

TRIVIA:

The “Air Force One” can only be called “Air Force One” when the President of the United States is on it. Hence, the controller announcing, “We are now Air Force One” when the President boards. When the President is not there, it’s just a really expensive and big plane.

…well, don’t that jes pop yer corset strings. All that there money onna plane what ain’t even got no name. An iffen it ain’t got no name, how t’ heck do t’ President know he be gittin onna right plane? Alla them there planes look a lot alike, now don’t they?
